MAINTAIN A NIGHTTIME SKINCARE ROUTINE FOR OILY SKIN BY FOLLOWING JUST 5 STEPS

For oily skin, the problems of greasiness, acne, breakouts, and blackheads are more common. This is normal. However, with proper care, these issues can be reduced. At the end of the day, the skin also needs to rest. Not so? And for that, a proper nighttime skincare routine should be followed. So let’s go! Learn today how to maintain an oily skincare routine in just 5 steps.

Product Selection According to Skin Type:

When the sebaceous glands produce excess sebum or oil, the skin appears oily. Oil control, acne prevention, and moisture balance are the main concerns for this type of skin. That’s why I repeatedly tell my clients that the first condition of skincare is to choose products according to skin type. Before skincare, know your skin type and then use products accordingly. The type of ingredients used in dry skincare may not provide much benefit if you have oily skin. This is normal! So it is important to select the skincare range first according to the skin type.

Nighttime Skincare Routine:

Now let’s learn what the nighttime skincare routine for oily skin should be-

1. Double Cleansing

In the first step, clean the skin thoroughly with micellar water to prevent breakouts or acne due to clogged pores. For oily skin, choose micellar water as an alternative to oil cleansers or oil-based makeup removers. Micellar water contains mild surfactants and purified water, which will instantly clean makeup, sunscreen, and dirt from your skin.

In the second step, clean the face with a foam cleanser or face wash. Choose a face wash or foam cleanser specially formulated for oily skin. Ingredients like green clay, charcoal, tea tree oil, neem, and green tea are very effective in oil control.

2. Toning

An important part of basic skincare is toning, which many people skip. Toner ingredients and formulations vary according to skin type. For oily skin, choose a mattifying and oil-balancing toner. Many people are confused about the benefits of toner on oily skin! Toning restores the skin’s pH balance, controls sebum production, and prepares the skin for the next step.

3. Serum

If you are 20+ and follow a proper skincare routine, include a serum in your nighttime skincare routine. Serums contain highly concentrated active ingredients, which easily penetrate the deep layers of the skin and work by targeting specific skin concerns. Let’s find out which active ingredients are really helpful for oily skin:

Hyaluronic Acid: It keeps skin hydrated and reduces sebum production.
Salicylic Acid: It removes dead skin cells and prevents acne, blackheads, and excess oiliness.

Niacinamide: It reduces the visibility of open pores and regulates sebum production.

Retinol: It prevents signs of aging by increasing skin cell turnover and reduces sebum production.

Vitamin C: It brightens the skin and reduces spots.

Add serum to your nighttime skincare routine as per your skin concerns. All new products cannot be added to the skincare routine at once. Start with a very low percentage first and do a patch test before including any ingredient in your skincare routine.

4. Night Cream

After applying the serum, the next step is moisturizing. In that case, you can opt for night cream, which can provide proper nourishment, moisturization, and hydration to the skin. For oily skin, select an oil-free and lightweight formula night cream. Night creams renew skin cells along with moisturizing and help reduce wrinkles.

You can also use a sleeping mask 2-3 days a week for extra care of oily skin. Night creams are gentle formulas that can be used regularly and have a relatively low concentration of active ingredients. Sleeping masks, on the other hand, work as a powerful weekly treatment, as they use high concentrations of active ingredients.

Sleeping masks work on anti-aging, fade spots, and repair damaged skin barriers. I hope you have understood the basic difference between night creams and sleeping masks.

5. Eye Cream

Applying eye cream is an essential step in nighttime skincare, regardless of skin type. Gently massage the eye area with the eye cream. It will improve blood circulation and gradually reduce wrinkles, dark circles, and puffiness.

Many people think that aging signs are more visible in the eye area with dry skin, so eye cream is only for dry skin. But no! Even though you have oily skin, you don’t have oil glands around your eyes. So dry and oily skins are the same when it comes to aging signs visible in the eye area. So even if you have oily skin, the eye area needs proper moisturization.

Some Tips for Oily Skin Care:

In addition to maintaining a nighttime skincare routine, there are other things to keep in mind when caring for oily skin, and that is:

1. Be Careful Using Active Ingredients:

Do not apply a serum containing the same ingredients at the same time as a salicylic acid-based toner. It can make the skin over-exfoliated and over-dry. After a salicylic acid-rich toner, you can apply a hyaluronic acid-based serum if desired.

Again, if you use a toner with niacinamide, you can apply a serum with salicylic acid. If you use retinol twice a week at night, do not apply AHA and BHA-based products during that time. This is how you balance your skincare ingredients.

2. Do Not Over wash:

Oily skin does not mean that you have to wash your skin repeatedly! Overwashing removes the natural oil, and the sebaceous glands produce more sebum to balance it. So cleansing twice a day, morning and night, is enough for oily skin.

3. Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle:

Reduce the amount of carbs and sugar in your diet and make it a habit to eat healthy food. Avoid fried food, processed food, extra carbs, sweets, ice cream, pastries, and cheese. Drink at least 8 glasses of water regularly. Try to be stress-free and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

So today you have learned how to do nighttime skincare for oily skin in 5 steps. Along with that, you have also learned some other tips for oily skincare. So give yourself time, and take care of yourself. If you take care of your skin according to the rules and change your lifestyle, oily skin will be healthy! Stay well! Stay beautiful!
